Video from Sarah Palin on SNL
Here it is in all its mediocre glory:
Personally I think it was decently funny, the Mark Wahlberg cameo was actually the funniest part in my mind, but it could have been much better. They easily could have done a skit where Palin spoofs Fey and it would have been far funnier. I mean they had Palin there and they barely had her involved in anything… it was a below average night for SNL, something that is more and more common these days.
Here is the other Mark Wahlberg skit that was far more hilarious than either of the Sarah Palin skits:

Announcing: Two New Political Cartoons on The College Politico
I will now be featuring two of the best political cartoons on the planet.
The first is a cartoon called Diversity Lane. It comments on national politics and the liberal mindset in a way I find poignant and, more importantly, a way that actually makes me laugh. Diversity Lane is also written in a very unique way, it’s really closer to a written sit-com than anything else.
Before you start reading the cartoons you should take some time and get to know the family at this link.
Here is a sample:
The second cartoon is by Ammon Perry and focuses on Pennsylvania state politics and the politics of Messiah College. His work is insightful and impressive. He never ceases to entertain and inform. He will give this blog the local focus that has been lacking. Oh, and his stuff brings tears of hilarity to my eyes.
Here’s a sample of his work:
I will be updating The College Politico as often as possible with works from these two brilliant satirists.
Is it bad when the Conserv-O-Sphere needs comic relief?
Seems to be a lot of depression and panic theses days…
Some for good reason.
Some for exaggerated concerns over polls… come on people Zogby only has him down by 3 and, if you think about the atmosphere, Obama should be up by, say, 15 or so.
But in case you are feeling down like some of my compatriots in the Conserv-O-Sphere here’s some material to cheer you up:
Hot Air found a hilarious reworking of the famous Take on Me video… even better than Family Guy.
Malkin took a more political, but still hilarious, approach and found this Gem.
Heck even the McCain campaign got in on the comic relief-er-y.
And, obviously saving best for last, here is my compilation of the Top 5 funniest videos on the internet.
Take a moment to laugh. Just don’t do it because you think the election is lost.
An American Carol: I can’t wait
I’ve seen all the trailers and preview excerpts and my excitement only builds. And that actually surprises me since An American Carol is a conservative comedy which takes on Micheal Moore and the far-left. And nothing is more hit or miss than conservative comedy.
Often more miss than hit at that.
Think Half Hour News Hour…
And while David Zucker made Airplane! and the Naked Gun series… he also made the last two Scary Movies
But from everything I gather about the movie it actually seems like it should be hilarious.
1. The aforementioned Zucker can be hilarious and he seems especially interested in this movie besides he’s pretty much staked his career on it.
2. The movie, unlike the last two scary movies, is chock full o’ movie stars including, Kelsey Grammer, James Woods, Dennis Hopper, Leslie Nielsen, and so on.
3. The trailer and clips aren’t nearly as stupid as ones for epic movie, date movie, scary movie 4, and on and on and on. Plus many of the clips I’ve seen have actually exhibited the clever quips that made Airplane! a classic.
Ex: General George S. Patton (Kelsey Grammer) slaps Micheal Malone (Kevin Farley).
Patton: I am General George S. Patton.
Malone: That would explain the slapping…
4. The parody sites they’ve set up, like MooveAlong.org, are rolling on the floor funny.
5. It actually succeeds in reminding me of Scrubs, a show I love. I hope it can live up to that feeling.
Here’s the trailer. See what you think:

Oprah pulls an “Us Weekly” and pisses off fans by dissing Palin UPDATE: (many) Others jump on the “Us Weekly” boat
Apparently Oprah Winfrey and Us Weekly (and now MTV) need to do a little more market research and figure out that their audience consists of more that Huffpo readers and Obamatons because today the Drudge Report broke a story which claimed that Oprah is ignoring fans and staff requests to book Republican Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin.
And according to Oprah’s response Drudge was wrong. You see, Oprah didn’t block Palin from coming on the show… as Oprah tells it, she never even considered it. Way to tamp down the controversy, people were upset that you didn’t want to book Palin so you tell them “don’t worry, its not that I don’t want to book her, its that I never even considered booking her”.
Although, just judging from the statement Oprah released, it seems that she must have considered booking her since she explains why she isn’t going to book her…
And whats that explanation?
Well, apparently, Oprah doesn’t want to use her show as political platform… as Malkin would say “snort”.
So then… its time to see whether the Oprah fans are as pissed off as the Us Weekly subscribers are.
Yup. Looks like it. (I hope they don’t suffer the same comment “glitch” that Us Weekly happened to suffer)
P.s. Will Oprah follow in Us Weekly’s footprints and start begging people not to be mad at them? (The begging continues)(More Us Weekly free give aways… guess they aren’t gonna bother trying to sell them anymore)
UPDATE: Looks like MTV has pulled an “Us Weekly” and gone Palin bashing… the new sport of fancy on the left. Here’s what happened (here’s video of a Geico caveman bashing palin and her family) and here’s the reaction.
UPDATE: Us Weekly manages to out “Us Weekly” themselves…
UPDATE: Who will be the first major “news organization” to run with this story? (I’m betting on CNN)
SHOCKING UPDATE: Even the nut bags over at the Democratic Underground have experienced Palin Bashing Backlash from pulling an “Us Weekly”… wow
YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Will the “Us Weekly” moments never stop? Here’s a new one from an author who I can only assume was on crack at the time he penned this masterpiece over at salon.com… and of course, the reaction. (more mixed but still exceedingly negative for a site like salon)
WILL THE UPDATES EVER STOP?: Who’s turn is it this time? looks like its Perez Hilton… Here’s the post and the reaction all at once this time. (on a side note… compare the picture of Perez in this Malkin post to the cartoon of Perez on his site, then compare both to the picture of Palin)
A REAL BITCH OF AN UPDATE: (sorry for the profanity but wow is it appropriate) The Washington Post and Newsweek have apparently decided to pull a collaborative “Us Weekly” by letting a woman who can only be described as an absolute bitch post this pile of excrement on their shared website. Here’s the reaction which is all too predictable, yet somehow unseen by anyone at either publication. (Hotair plucked this passage so you don’t have to torture yourself and read the entire thing…)
SICK UPDATE: Looks like the Palin bashing has hit the streets…
IF YOU THINK RAPE IS FUNNY THEN THIS IS HILARIOUS UPDATE: This disgusting insert-four-letter-word-here finally suffers the consequences for here gang-rape related US Weekly moment.
EVEN FOX NEWS UPDATE: Yup… Even Fox News pulls an US Weekly.
ANYBODY SURPRISED? UPDATE: NBC puts Olbermann on Football Night in America. Olbermann manages to pull an Us Weekly.
INEVITABLE UPDATE: Inevitably some one was gonna make up some idiotic claim that Palin is a racist for some idiotic reason. Here is that Us Weekly moment.
US WEEKLY MOMENT OR NOT, YOU DECIDE UPDATE: Its borderline at least… Newsweek does an extreme close up on Palin with no retouching.
NEWSWEEK USES FASHION IDIOT TO TRY AND BASH PALIN UPDATE: This dolt proves that she isn’t qualified to write about anything beyond Jennifer Lopez’s wedgies.
IN MY OWN BACKYARD UPDATE: Not surprisingly some people in Philly want to stone Sarah Palin…
ROSEANNE IS APPARENTLY STILL ALIVE UPDATE: Oh yea, shes also a nut job who thinks Sarah Palin is trying to incite a race war.
VIEW IDIOTS BEING VIEW IDIOTS UPDATE: They’re still laying it on thick…
ANYBODY WHO GOES TO COLLEGE SURPRISED BY THIS UPDATE: I’m certainly not… Nut job professor let off with a warning after forcing students to write Us Weekly-ish essays.
Tropic Thunder, offensive or hillarious?
There is some controversy swirling around the first movie that was able to unseat The Dark Knight. That movie is, of course, Tropic Thunder. Now I went to see Tropic Thunder Friday night after having read about the problems some groups had with the movie.
Considering I went back a second time the next night you might be able to figure out which side of the debate I came down on. But you might be wondering why.
Well… the accusations being leveled at Tropic Thunder are that it harshly insults the mentally disabled and specifically intends to do so. Some have even gone so far as to organize protests and boycotts against the film.
Now it is true that the word “retard” is used several times throughout the movie to describe a character Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller) played in a failed attempt to be taken seriously as an actor. So if you consider the mention of that word to be offensive, and some do, then Tropic Thunder is going to bother you. Personally I don’t consider it offensive because of the context of how it is used in the movie.
You see the protesters seem to think that the movie wants to get some cheap laughs by having Ben stiller jump around like an idiot and degrade the mentally handicapped. But this is an extremely shallow interpretation of what exactly the movie is getting at.
In fact, the real target of Tropic Thunder is Hollywood itself. That’s true in many different ways but in relation to the controversy Tropic Thunder is lampooning Hollywood award shows, specifically the Oscars. And, honestly, it makes an extremely valid point.
That point is this, Hollywood is incredibly shallow and easily manipulated when it comes to the mentally handicapped. This is apparent in that anytime someone plays a character with a mental disability they are instantly nominated and nearly always win an Oscar.
In the movie Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller) is well aware of this phenomenon and sets out to take advantage of it in “Simple Jack” but he fails to secure any awards. In the scene cited most often as offensive Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr) explains that Tugg didn’t win because he played a character who was too retarded. According to Kirk, Hollywood only gives awards to actors who play slow or slightly retarded characters like Forest Gump and Rain-man but for actors who play characters with more mental problems, like I am Sam, they go home empty handed.
For me I thought this attack on Hollywood was fairly accurate and reasonably funny.
As for my take on the movie… despite the massive amount of pointless cursing it was absolutely hilarious and I would even see it a third time.
