The Debate… Who cares?

Well, I guess a lot of people do (Malkin even called it “a historic night“).

But I don’t.

And, honestly, why should I? What purpose was there in watching that boring thing? I mean, come on, what was I going to learn from last nights debate that I didn’t already know? And even for uninformed people what was there to learn last night that you couldn’t have learned in a far more accurate way from either of the campaign websites or from any number of fact checking sites?

Don’t get me wrong, I love a gaffe as much as the next guy, and there were plenty to choose from last night. But let’s just take Obama’s Troop bracelet gaffe as an example, what does it show us that we didn’t already know? That Obama doesn’t really care about the troops all that much? Or maybe that they aren’t at the top of concerns?

OK, but didn’t we already know that? (I mean this guy’s whole campaign is centered around destroying what the troops have built)

Lets think about it another way… If Obama had been able to remember the name on the bracelet or if he knew the entire history of Sergeant Ryan David Jopeck and recited it to a T, would that mean that he really does care about the troops? Or that he puts the troops at the top of his list?

So, really, if we there isn’t anything to learn from the debate and the gaffe’s that come out of it are little more than pointless then what other reason could there be?

I guess I could watch if I wanted to get pissed off… I mean I saw about a five minute clip of the two of them talking about the economic crisis and it only served to piss me off. Seriously, when I heard Obama start talking about how deregulation is what caused the troubles we are facing I couldn’t help but yell at him.

“Deregulation, Obama? Are you kidding? Was it deregulation that created organisations to give people loans that clearly weren’t qualified for them and never would have received them otherwise? Was it deregulation that mandated financial institutes give the same clearly unqualified people loans? Thus creating a massive and seemingly unending housing boom which then lead to a plethora of bad investments, investments which were sold by the government as safe investments. No Obama it wasn’t deregulation, it was idiots like you.”

Then when McCain did nothing to refute Obama’s claims, and nearly repeated them, I had to just turn it off.

And, truthfully, after this charade I feel almost less informed and a little angry.

Can I get credit for being an Obamaton?

Cause the kids at U Mass at Amherst might be able to soon…

Although I guess I would have to become an Obamaton first. And that ain’t exactly likely…

Is Obama dumb or does he just play dumb when it suits him?

When I look at this latest Gaffe that’s the question I’m left with.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPd4yk0x-eg

The important line to note in the video is “You know, you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.”

Now, yes, that is a common saying in politics and, yes, even McCain has used it before (though he was calling a piece of legislation a pig and not people). So to someone who doesn’t follow politics in any way shape or form it might not seem like a big deal at all. But for everyone else in the world its obvious that this is intended to be an attack on Sarah Palin.

And its obvious because the most famous line Sarah Palin has ever uttered in her public life came just a week ago when she said “What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick”.

But despite how obvious it is to anyone with half a brain and access to campaign coverage, Obama and his campaign insists on asserting that the pig comments had absolutely nothing to do with Sarah Palin. You know, he just happened to use that lipstick line about pigs the week after Palin made her own famous lipstick reference and now he is shocked and appalled that anybody could make the connection.

Now, honestly, if you take the campaign’s explanation at face value than what else can you conclude than the fact that Obama is just dumb. Seriously. I mean how can you not make the connection between the two lines? Even if you didn’t intend for the connection to be made how can you not see that it would be made?

(I mean come on… even his supporters in the audience made the connection. Are they smarter than he is?)

To me, whats far more likely than the Obama camps explination is that Obama planned on making the pig remark as a twist on Palin’s words, which happens all the time in politics (you know those clever politicians), and I’m guessing he didn’t completely realize that the twist ends up referring to Sarah Palin (and George Bush) as a pig. And I’m also guessing they probably figured even if it was borderline offensive that it would get a lot of attention since it was at a small rally in front of supporters.

And then when it did blow up in their faces Obama and his campaign decided to play the “I’m an idiot and completely oblivious to practically everything” card. A card that the Obama camp has played over and over again with great success.

Think back to the situations around Reverend Wright, Rashid Khalidi, or William Ayres. It seems, at least to me, that Obama always seems to have a piggate/lipstickgate/whatevergate you wanna call it kind of response. In other words he always seems to claim that he was completely unaware of what he or his friends and associates were doing or saying. You know, the old “I wasn’t there when my pastor of 20 years was saying these insane things” or the classic “my friends who either are terrorists or support terrorists are actually “mainstream” and “respected” professors”.

(But, inevitably, the dumbest people involved with the playing of the idiot card are the ones who immediately fold after its played… that would be the media of course)

So, whether you go with my best guess of what happened or if you go with what the Obama campaign says happened their are really only two conclusions to draw from this. And those conclusions are, either Obama really didn’t make the connection before he said the pig line and is thus and absolute idiot or he knew exactly what he was doing and is just pretending to be dumb in order to escape the backlash like he has done time and time again throughout this election cycle.

UPDATE: New idiotic Obama response to the controversy…

Oprah pulls an “Us Weekly” and pisses off fans by dissing Palin UPDATE: (many) Others jump on the “Us Weekly” boat

Apparently Oprah Winfrey and Us Weekly (and now MTV) need to do a little more market research and figure out that their audience consists of more that Huffpo readers and Obamatons because today the Drudge Report broke a story which claimed that Oprah is ignoring fans and staff requests to book Republican Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin.

And according to Oprah’s response Drudge was wrong. You see, Oprah didn’t block Palin from coming on the show… as Oprah tells it, she never even considered it. Way to tamp down the controversy, people were upset that you didn’t want to book Palin so you tell them “don’t worry, its not that I don’t want to book her, its that I never even considered booking her”.

Although, just judging from the statement Oprah released, it seems that she must have considered booking her since she explains why she isn’t going to book her…

And whats that explanation?

Well, apparently, Oprah doesn’t want to use her show as political platform… as Malkin would say “snort”.

So then… its time to see whether the Oprah fans are as pissed off as the Us Weekly subscribers are.

Yup. Looks like it. (I hope they don’t suffer the same comment “glitch” that Us Weekly happened to suffer)

P.s. Will Oprah follow in Us Weekly’s footprints and start begging people not to be mad at them? (The begging continues)(More Us Weekly free give aways… guess they aren’t gonna bother trying to sell them anymore)

UPDATE: Looks like MTV has pulled an “Us Weekly” and gone Palin bashing… the new sport of fancy on the left. Here’s what happened (here’s video of a Geico caveman bashing palin and her family) and here’s the reaction.

UPDATE: Us Weekly manages to out “Us Weekly” themselves…

UPDATE: Who will be the first major “news organization” to run with this story? (I’m betting on CNN)

SHOCKING UPDATE: Even the nut bags over at the Democratic Underground have experienced Palin Bashing Backlash from pulling an “Us Weekly”… wow

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Will the “Us Weekly” moments never stop? Here’s a new one from an author who I can only assume was on crack at the time he penned this masterpiece over at salon.com… and of course, the reaction. (more mixed but still exceedingly negative for a site like salon)

WILL THE UPDATES EVER STOP?: Who’s turn is it this time? looks like its Perez Hilton… Here’s the post and the reaction all at once this time. (on a side note… compare the picture of Perez in this Malkin post to the cartoon of Perez on his site, then compare both to the picture of Palin)

A REAL BITCH OF AN UPDATE: (sorry for the profanity but wow is it appropriate) The Washington Post and Newsweek have apparently decided to pull a collaborative “Us Weekly” by letting a woman who can only be described as an absolute bitch post this pile of excrement on their shared website. Here’s the reaction which is all too predictable, yet somehow unseen by anyone at either publication. (Hotair plucked this passage so you don’t have to torture yourself and read the entire thing…)

SICK UPDATE: Looks like the Palin bashing has hit the streets…

IF YOU THINK RAPE IS FUNNY THEN THIS IS HILARIOUS UPDATE: This disgusting insert-four-letter-word-here finally suffers the consequences for here gang-rape related US Weekly moment.

EVEN FOX NEWS UPDATE: Yup… Even Fox News pulls an US Weekly.

ANYBODY SURPRISED? UPDATE: NBC puts Olbermann on Football Night in America. Olbermann manages to pull an Us Weekly.

INEVITABLE UPDATE: Inevitably some one was gonna make up some idiotic claim that Palin is a racist for some idiotic reason. Here is that Us Weekly moment.

US WEEKLY MOMENT OR NOT, YOU DECIDE UPDATE: Its borderline at least… Newsweek does an extreme close up on Palin with no retouching.

NEWSWEEK USES FASHION IDIOT TO TRY AND BASH PALIN UPDATE: This dolt proves that she isn’t qualified to write about anything beyond Jennifer Lopez’s wedgies.

IN MY OWN BACKYARD UPDATE: Not surprisingly some people in Philly want to stone Sarah Palin…

ROSEANNE IS APPARENTLY STILL ALIVE UPDATE: Oh yea, shes also a nut job who thinks Sarah Palin is trying to incite a race war.

VIEW IDIOTS BEING VIEW IDIOTS UPDATE: They’re still laying it on thick…

ANYBODY WHO GOES TO COLLEGE SURPRISED BY THIS UPDATE: I’m certainly not… Nut job professor let off with a warning after forcing students to write Us Weekly-ish essays.

Biden vs Palin so far…

So the number 1s have chosen their number 2s. Lets take a minute to make a video comparison of the two latest video from Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.

Here’s biden at a campaign event making a little gaffe and sounding just plain painful… (Bob Casey jr was negative 2 years old at the time)

And here’s Sarah Palin on CNBC sounding smooth and informed… plus she isn’t afraid to directly critique her own party.

Huckabee to supporters: Palin pick “pleasant surprise”

Contrary to what others in the conservative community might think it seems that Mike Huckabee isn’t trying to fracture the party or “stir up the same sense of grievance among the Huckheads that finding out Hillary wasn’t vetted stirred up in the PUMAs” it seems that Mike Huckabee is actually quite happy with the VP choice.

Here is the message he sent to supporters today:

Sarah Palin for Vice President!

by Mike Huckabee

Sarah Palin is a pleasant surprise for those of us who had hoped that Senator McCain would pick a principled and authentic conservative pro-life leader. Sarah Palin is both principled and authentic. As a Governor, she also brings an important balance of understanding of the critical domestic issues that is needed and that the Democrats have ignored with their ticket. Governor Palin is smart, authentic, tough, and a dynamic choice that will remind women that they are not welcome on the Democrat’s ticket, they have a place with Republicans.

Seems as though he, like pretty much all conservatives from Rush to Beck to Malkin (to me), is pretty taken by Palin and pretty pleased with McCain for picking her. Maybe this will make the “Romneyheads” back off Huckabee, then again probably not… But, hey, Huckabee probably won’t back off Romney anytime soon either.

Obama intro video: less than a minute dedicated to his experience

I just rewound my Tivo after I was surprised at how little time they dedicated to trying to establish Barack Obama’s experience in his introduction video. And I’m not kidding on this… it was less than one minute, and that includes when they were talking about his “community organizer” and state senate days. According to my rough count they spent about 20-30 seconds (my exact count was 20 but I’ll throw in a buffer) on his national political experience.

And even more odd than the lack of time spent on his national experience, because lets face it there just isn’t much, was how they choose to highlight his time in the US Senate.

After quickly mentioning that fought for “energy independence”, “Nuclear Proliferation”, and “Ethics Reform” the video cuts to US Senator Claire McCaskill saying “I watched him stand in the middle where alot of the senior members of the Senate were saying “hey, go away and leave us alone”, he wouldn’t”.

I guess that was intended to make him sound determined… but it doesn’t give any context. I mean why were they telling him to go away? What were the senior Senators talking about? Why did Obama want to talk to them so badly? Honestly, without an explanation it just makes Obama sound annoying (or determined depending on your perspective I guess).

In stark contrast to the time allotted to talk about Obama’s experience about 5 minutes were dedicated to talking about his childhood…

Things can’t be good for your party when the 10 minute video introducing your candidate at his acceptance speech only spends 20 seconds talking about his experience in national politics…

UPDATE: Best line of the night for me was when Obama claimed that he wasn’t a celebrity… while delivering a speech to 85,000 adoring fans… in a converted football stadium… in front of a set that looks like a temple… with a massive fireworks display at the conclusion

UPDATE: Nomination acceptance speech or Super Bowl half time show? You Decide…
