Did The History Channel Run Anti-American Ads Abroad?

That’s the question Caleb Howe is trying to figure out over at Redstate today. I’m going to link him twice to make sure that you go and read his work because it’s an example of quite remarkable reporting.

Besides if you don’t read his post you won’t get the full story and you might not fully understand how I came to my conclusions.

The basic summary is that the History Channel in all likelihood didn’t commission or run these anti-American ads (click to enlarge):

History Channel

The History Channel

And this anti-Christian/western ad (click to enlarge):

The History Channel

However, the ad agency which works for the History Channel (among many others), Ogilvy & Mather, did commission the ads then brand them with History Channel logos and even submit them to the prestigious CLIO awards. And what’s worse is that these absurd ads actually won a CLIO award.

Now, again, Caleb Howe has great insights into all the things wrong with this situation and these ads so go read his post. But, he doesn’t go quite far enough down the CLIO trail. There is definitely a lot more to this.

I mean, sure, I could buy that the award ceremony disregards political messages and judges the entries based off of their creativity and visual appeal… except that those ads are neither creative or visually appealing. They look like something a 6 year old made in paint on windows 95. For goodness sake if that’s all it takes to reach the pinnacle of print advertising then sign me the heck up!

I’ll be raking in the millions in no time and I can barely get by with my cheap rip off of photo shop. Seriously, look at those pictures. It’s just a quick and simple cut and past job. And a crappy one at that. Those stupid billboards couldn’t look less like they were a part of the picture. Over all this potential campaign is just a worthless piece of crap.

So that leads me to this question: HOW THE HECK DID THIS WIN A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD???

Despite the in depth analysis a screaming question like that might seem to require I can offer only this: It’s anti-American political message. Nothing else makes a lick of sense.

New Hampshire House Rejects Gay Marriage Bill

gay marriage

In what comes as a surprising twist the New Hampshire house has rejected a new bill which would have legalized gay marriage. Its particularly surprising not just because its well… New Hampshire but also because the house had already approved a previous bill legalizing gay marriage which was ultimately vetoed by the governor. Not to mention the fact that the New Hampshire senate had passed the new bill. Here’s how the AP described it:

A divided New Hampshire House has refused to go along with changes the governor demanded to make his state the sixth to allow gay marriage. Instead, it voted to further negotiate with the Senate.

But let’s not get our hopes up about this one. It seems they aren’t necessarily being held up by wether or not gay marriage should be legal but instead are arguing about protections for churches who refuse to perform marriage ceremonies for gay couples.

The AP story is extremely light on details but the vote totals show how divided even the New Hampshire house is over gay marriage so take a gander…

I’ll try to update when more info comes out about the exact reasons why the New Hampshire house didn’t pass this bill.

Gingrich to Pelosi: Resign

Pretty Pelosi

The call comes after Pelosi vomitted her lies all over the CIA. Sure he’s gone off on her over this before and sure this is little more than grandiose political theater that will lead to nothing in the end… but it’s still fun to listen to someone give ol’ Nancy a much deserved smack down:

In a column for the conservative publication Human Events, the former House Speaker takes aim at Pelosi’s press conference last week, during which she said the CIA did not tell her in 2002 that it used the aggressive interrogation technique of waterboarding. She went on to allege the CIA routinely misleads Congress.

“She charged that the CIA, deliberately and as a matter of policy, violated the law by lying to Congress,” Gingrich writes in the column. “And with that allegation, Speaker Pelosi disqualified herself from the office she holds.”

“Speaker Pelosi has damaged America’s safety,” Gingrich also writes. “She’s made America less secure by sending a signal to the men and women defending our country that they can’t count on their leaders to defend them.”

Indeed all those things are true. And, yes, she should resign. But lets be honest… she won’t and the Dems won’t do a thing to her. So really the political hacks used as human shields surrounding Pelosi got this one right: Continue reading Gingrich to Pelosi: Resign

Inevitable: Vick to Work With Humane Society

michael vick

It’s all part of the celebrity rehabilitation cycle. First comes the atrocious and reprehensible act, in Vick’s case dog fighting, then comes the arrest and legal punishments associated with the crime, in Vick’s case jail time and expulsion from the NFL, and finally the celebrity teams up with whatever major organization usually fights against the atrocious and reprehensible act committed by said celebrity, in Vick’s case the Humane Society.

It’s just like clockwork:

Michael Vick wants to work with an unlikely ally the Humane Society of the United States on a program aimed at eradicating dogfighting among urban teens.

Society president Wayne Pacelle said Tuesday that he recently met with Vick at the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., and that Vick said he wants to work with the group once he’s out of federal custody.

Billy Martin, one of Vick’s attorneys, said Vick requested the meeting.

“Michael is very interested in putting this together,” Martin said.

Well… yea, of course Micheal Vick is “very interested” in working with the Humane Society but its probably more because he’s “very interested” in making 8 figures again soon and less because hes “very interested” in ending dog fighting. Now, hopefully I’m wrong but I’ll remain skeptical, along with most everybody else, until Vick has proved he really is remorseful: Continue reading Inevitable: Vick to Work With Humane Society

Shocker: Chrysler Won’t Repay Bailout Money

chrysler

There goes that cash… straight down the money pit.

But, hey, what’s $7 Billion among friends. Especially nowadays:

Chrysler LLC will not repay U.S. taxpayers more than $7 billion in bailout money it received earlier this year and as part of its bankruptcy filing.

This revelation was buried within Chrysler’s bankruptcy filings last week and confirmed by the Obama administration Tuesday. The filings included a list of business assumptions from one of the company’s key financial advisors in the bankruptcy case.

Now, a pessimist might say that the bailout money has gone down the black hole that these failing companies are and we will never see any of it repaid (even if the companies want to repay it).  Unfortunately I am a pessimist. After all the government would much rather own or control these companies than get money back from them:

An Obama administration official confirmed Tuesday that Chrysler won’t be repaying the loans, though a portion of the bridge loan may be recovered by Treasury from the assets of Chrysler Financial, the former credit arm of the automaker which is essentially going out of business as part of the reorganization.

“The reality now is that the face value [of the $4 billion bridge loan] will be written off in the bankruptcy process,” said the official, who added that the 8% equity stake that Treasury will be receiving as part of the company’s reorganization is meant to compensate taxpayers for the lost money.

Like I said… shocking.

The Non-Story That is Karl Rove’s Thank You

Yes, as Tommy Christopher of AOL reported today, Karl Rove did send me a thank you on twitter yesterday.

The reason you didn’t hear about it here is that I wasn’t completely comfortable sharing it publicly because he sent the little thank you through a direct message on Twitter. Which means he may not have wanted it shared publicly. So, if I didn’t post it you may be asking “how did Tommy Christopher end up with it?”.

Well, despite what his post may imply, I met Tommy at CPAC and we talk from time to time. And when I got a direct message from Karl Rove, in my excitement, I told a couple people about it. Tommy was one of them.

In hindsight I probably should have made it completely clear that I was talking strictly off the record but I really didn’t, and still don’t, see the story here. But I guess it just goes to show that you should always be careful when talking to a journalist… and I wasn’t.

Now that Tommy has written his inane piece bashing Rove I suppose it’s my duty to defend Rove a little. Especially since this is such a stupid non-story. Plus… I get the added bonus of taking apart Tommy’s cheer leading for Megsy Mac and that’s always a blast. Continue reading The Non-Story That is Karl Rove’s Thank You

Meghan McCain: Karl Rove is ‘Creepy’

Meghan McCain

Meghan McCain is a twit.

And I don’t mean that she uses twitter rather I mean that she is an imbecile. She does use twitter of course… though her latest post on The Daily Beast proves that she tweets the same way she blogs, cluelessly.

You see the main point of Meg’s latest work of genius is that some people following her on twitter are creepy, namely Karl Rove: Continue reading Meghan McCain: Karl Rove is ‘Creepy’

Obama: About That Assault Rifle Ban…

obama

Yea. Not gonna happen:

President Obama, after meeting Thursday with Mexico’s president, signaled he is backing away from his pledge to renew the U.S. ban on assault weapons but still wishes to stop the cross-border flow of guns that wind up in the arsenals of drug cartels.

[…]

Obama said Thursday he preferred to focus on enforcing existing laws to keep assault weapons out of Mexico, rather than trying to renew the U.S. ban on the weapons.

“We are absolutely committed to working in partnership with Mexico to make sure we are dealing with this scourge on both sides of the border,” Obama said at a news conference with Calderon outlining their strategy.

Probably a smart move. I mean even Mexico’s President realizes that Americans don’t like when politicians try to screw with their God given rights:

“We know that it is a politically delicate topic because Americans truly cherish their constitutional rights,” Calderon said.

Regardless of the realities though, I highly doubt this signals an Obama administration shift into the pro second amendment camp. I think it’s obvious that this is merely an abandonment of an enviable policy point in favor of pursuing less controversial but perhaps equally gun grabbing initiatives.

This is certainly a victory for bitter clingers everywhere but it is by no means a signal to relax in the fight to preserve what is rightfully ours.
