English Hippies: Wifi Causing ‘Brain Fog’ and ‘Loss of Creativity’

hippies

You just can’t make this stuff up:

Turn off that Wi-Fi network — it’s disturbing our chakras.

That’s what many residents of Glastonbury, a lovely medieval town turned New Age hub in southwestern England, are demanding the local government do.

Ever since the town’s free municipal wireless broadband network went online in May, people have been complaining of, as an online petition puts it, “headaches, dizziness, nausea, severe tiredness, brain fog, disorientation and loss of appetite, loss of balance, inability to concentrate, loss of creativity” — all ailments an examining physician would find it difficult to prove or disprove.

These people couldn’t be more out of touch with reality if they thought they were living on King Arthur’s grave site. Oh, wait… they do believe that: Continue reading English Hippies: Wifi Causing ‘Brain Fog’ and ‘Loss of Creativity’

Illinois House May Vote on Blago Impeachment Next Week

According to the Associated Press:

The Illinois House could vote as early as next week on whether to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The Illinois House has bumped up its schedule and will meet several days next week. They had been set to reconvene on Jan. 12.

This comes as a little bit of a shock to me. After they showed no political back bone a couple weeks back I figured they would never actually vote to impeach Blagojevich. Maybe the Burris appointment and the circus that followed it has made them think twice?

But I still doubt this will come to anything execpt maybe another tent in the circus. You see, while it only takes a majority of the house to impeach it takes two thirds of the Senate to convict. Thats a pretty big feet for a state congress that couldn’t (or wouldn’t) even pass a bill taking the appointment power out of Blagojevich’s hands.

We shall see what happens…

New Chrysler Ad Campaign: Thanks for the Free Money America!

Chrysler thank you America

That’s the new ad campaign from our friendly failures at Chrysler. A great big thanks for the quick cash!

Well I have a little message for Bob Nardelli and Chrysler. Most of America never wanted to bail you out. We are not happy that you got bailed out. And we certainly do not want you to remind us of your bailout!

Thanks for nothing

Victory: Iraq Takes Control of ‘Green Zone’

green zone hand over

From CNN:

The U.S. military formally handed authority over Baghdad’s “Green Zone” to Iraqis on Thursday as new pacts governing the mission of international troops replaced a U.N. mandate.

Iraqi troops took over checkpoints around the heavily protected district, formally known as the International Zone, which houses Iraqi government offices and the U.S. Embassy.

While victory in Iraq has been evident for some time now, I think its safe to say that this will be the moment that history remembers as the successful end of the war. An end which will be remembered as a momentous victory for both the United States and the people of Iraq.

These quotes from both Iraqi and American officials crystalize the meaning of this achievement: Continue reading Victory: Iraq Takes Control of ‘Green Zone’

Burris Throws Blagojevich Under the Bus

blagojevich and burrisThe day after the awkward, poorly staged, and all around strange press conference where Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich defied everyone and choose former Illinois Attorney Gen. Roland Burris to replace Barack Obama in the Senate Burris has gone and pulled an Obama by completely trashing Blago.

Here’s how CNN put it:

The man appointed by embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to fill President-elect Barack Obama’s Senate seat said Wednesday his appointment to the position is legal, despite the charges against the governor.

Former Illinois Attorney Gen. Roland Burris said Blagojevich is innocent until proven guilty, even though his behavior “is reprehensible.”

“I don’t look upon the governor’s problems as my problems. I look at the governor’s problems as his problems,” Burris said.

Ouch… but if that wasn’t enough, it gets even better. In the same enthusiastic manor he accepted the appointment from Blago, Burris is now doing a back flip to support the current attorney general’s attempts to impeach Blago: Continue reading Burris Throws Blagojevich Under the Bus

NYT Sued Over Story Implying McCain Had an Affair

The Associated Press is reporting that the lobbyist the New York Times insinuated had an affair with John McCain (here is some background information on the NYT piece) has filed suit against the paper to the tune of $27 million:

A Washington lobbyist sued The New York Times for $27 million Tuesday over an article that she says gave the false impression she had an affair with Sen. John McCain in 1999.

Vicki L. Iseman filed the defamation suit in U.S. District Court in Richmond. It also names as defendants the Times’ executive editor, its Washington bureau chief and four reporters. Continue reading NYT Sued Over Story Implying McCain Had an Affair

Obama’s Internal Investigation Will Be Used to Help… Blagojevich?

That’s what Blago’s lawyer is hoping anyway…

But I think Obama’s interal investigation will do about as much to exonerate Blagojevich as it did to exonerate Obama’s staff. After all, how credible can any investigation into one’s (or the one’s) own guilt be?

P.S. Hello to everybody from the Conservative Grapevine!

Christmas in Baghdad

baghdad christmas

In a first ever public display, Baghdad residents are celebrating Christmas:

From a distance, it looks like an apparition: a huge multi-colored hot-air balloon floating in the Baghdad sky, bearing a large poster of Jesus Christ. Below it, an Iraqi flag.

Welcome to the first-ever public Christmas celebration in Baghdad, held Saturday and sponsored by the Iraqi Interior Ministry. Once thought to be infiltrated by death squads, the Ministry now is trying to root out sectarian violence

The story of an Iraqi priest crystallizes the importance of this celebration: Continue reading Christmas in Baghdad
