Well, it’s about time: Van Jones, President Obama’s ‘Green Jobs’ adviser, has resigned his position. Recently, some controversial comments, including calling Republicans “assholes”, made by Jones have resurfaced, leaving him to be a sitting duck in the Obama Administration. A video of Jones has surfaced on the Internet where he suggests black students would never do anything like the Columbine Massacres.
In the video, from December 2005, Jones makes statements about the racial differences in school violence. “You’ve never seen a Columbine done by a black child. Never,” he said. “They always say, ‘We can’t believe it happened here. We can’t believe it was these suburban white kids.’ It’s only them. Now a black kid might shoot another black kid. He’s not going to shoot up the whole school.”
Van Jones also signed a petition in 2004 to push for congressional hearings to investigate whether or not high-level government officials allowed the attacks on September 11, 2001 to occur. He later said that the petition “does not reflect my views, now or ever”. I don’t know about you, but whenever I am asked to sign a petition, I actually read it to see if I actually agree with it. But, that rational thinking might be the reason I am not an aide to President Obama.
Before joining the Obama Administration, the former aide tried to apologize for these comments when he said: “If I offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize.” Even when attempting to make amends, this guy doesn’t man up. I don’t think anyone in the world can say these comments did not offend at least one person. So, in the future Mr. Jones, take the initiative and apologize for offending others, not taking the easy way out with that conditional statement.
What is almost just as unprecedented as these comments is the fact that President Obama has bypassed the Constitution he took an Oath to preserve, protect, and defend. In Article II, Section 2, paragraph 2, the United States Constitution states, “[The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, [to] nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.”
By appointing over 30 “czars” to manage certain things, Obama has evaded the Senate conformation that is required by the Constitution for all federal appointees. While some have called the Bush (43) Administration or the Nixon Administration the “Imperial” Administrations, this is the largest grab of power by the Executive Branch since FDR tried to take control of the Supreme Court. Please, President Obama, follow the Constitution. For the past 225-plus years, it has worked out.
