[...] U.S. News & World Report contributing editor and PBS "To the Contrary" host Bonnie Erbe, for example, has been on a tear in recent weeks. Whether it’s hyping Meghan McCain as a fresh voice for the GOP or praising Bristol Palin as more mature than her mother, Erbe has done little to hide her disdain for social conservatives in the Republican Party that can actually form their arguments without coming off like a vapid valley girl whining about, like, creepy old guys like Karl Rove.
" one of those (people) who tapes themselves committing a crime, posts it on youtube, and is then surprised when the police show up at their door"...actually this is so true...once you post something publicly and allow others to follow you...why criticize them?

Steve, it was the embrace of the likes of the McCains, Sullivans and Powells that caused people to think of Republicans as Democrat Lite in the first place. Why go Democrat Lite when you can have the real thing?

Steve....Well said, as an independent voter myself who also finds Meghan quite likeable, I have to say the GOP of late has not been receptive to independent voters. I am always looking for the best a person can offer our country, not the affiliated party.

Wow, you guys just don't get it. As an independent, who voted for Reagan and Bush Sr., I am part of the demographic that decides elections. The Republican party has become a parody of itself. As a party, it's only answers are lower taxes and more religion. By embracing the Karl Rove tactics and sense of ethics, you won a war but are loosing the long term battle. Embracing Republicans like Meghan McCain, Andrew Sullivan, Colin Powell, etc., is the only chance you have of becoming relevant and winning elections. The electorate is getting younger and more diverse. The old Republican party cannot survive as is. And if you think the likes of Palin is y our future, you are sadly, sadly mistaken. I hope you wizen up. It would be nice to actually consider voting for a Republican again.
