Fact Checking Sally Kohn

Sally Kohn’s opinion article on Paul Ryan’s speech last night is making the rounds with liberals. The thinking goes that, hey, her piece was published on Fox News so it couldn’t possibly be liberal and everything in it must be true. That idea is, of course, absurd but I’ve decided to go through and refute the “facts” she lists in her article one by one. Her first “fact” deals with Ryan’s attack on the President for presiding over the only national credit downgrade in American History: Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating

Politifact Lies About Paul Ryan and the Janesville GM Plant

Last night Politifact Wisconsin issued one of the least factual and most skewed “fact checks” I’ve ever seen. Not only do they bend over backwards to provide cover to one of the most impotent promises President Obama ever made, they also simply lie about the key facts they use to label Paul Ryan’s claim false. Here is Politifact’s ruling:

Ben Smith, Obama’s Opposition to Born Alive, and the Media

A strange thing happened during last week’s debate. One of the candidates actually brought up what could be President Obama’s least covered but most controversial on the record stance ever. The candidate was Newt Gingrich and Obama’s stance was against the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act: After that moment though something a bit more predictable happened. Ben Smith, formerly of Politico and now the head of Buzzfeed’s political reporting operation, immediately tweeted out a defense of President Obama by lumping him in with a larger group of critics: Obama opposed a “born alive” bill that, critics said, went well

Ben Smith, Obama’s Opposition to Born Alive, and the Media – Email Transcript

Stephen Gutowski: Hello Ben, Here is the full transcript of the Illinois General Assembly for April 4th, 2002 and the relevant section is from page 31 to 34: http://www.ilga.gov/senate/transcripts/strans92/ST040402.pdf His argument includes the idea that Born Alive could somehow outlaw abortions all together but it also goes well beyond. He worries about the kind of burden the Born Alive Act would put on the abortionist since it would require a doctor to check the health of any baby that had survived the induced abortion. He basically argues that the abortionist, who is actively trying to abort the child in question,

White House Insists Short Term Deal Would Mean Credit Disaster

As Rory Cooper at The Foundry has noted I had a conversation with White House deputy press secretary Dan Pfeiffer through his official twitter account earlier today. Rory outlines the part of our back and forth that dealt with whether or not the President would sign any deal that made its way to his desk. Pfeiffer said yes but only because he seems to believe that Senate Democrats would never pass a short term deal. Why does the White House believe Senate Democrats would never pass a short term deal? Well, according to Pfeiffer, a short term deal, despite raising

Review: Jason Mattera’s ‘Obama Zombies’

Why yes. That is me sandwiched between Erick Erickson and Dr. Herbert London on the front page of Human Events. My review of Jason Mattera’s book “Obama Zombies” was published by them today and I think you should, ya know, go read it. Here’s a taste to get your appetite going: In 2008, twenty-somethings like me began to notice a disturbing new creature appearing on their college campuses around the country and all over their favorite social networking sites.  They seemed to spread out everywhere, spewing meaningless dribble in the form of campaign slogans and infecting others as the year
